Christie + Thane's Blog

about

This blog has been designed to document our attempt to remodel a 1910 farmhouse into a sustainable farm. The 2 acre, 1300 +/- sq. ft., 3 bed/1Bath, 1910 farmhouse was purchased as a bank owned property in June 2009. After two arduous months of making the property financeable, we’ve finally begun our remodel. Our goals are big, our budget is small, and so we hope this will be an inspiring documentary to show how anyone can live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Hey T.J. !! Quite a project you have going & very impressive !! I must have missed the pics of you & your wife if they are on the site. Just wanted to see if I could recognize you after all the years. A note, my sister bought a farmhouse built in 1899, had 5 acres left. Part of the original structure was actually built of very large logs, b ut had been added on to a few times. She restored as much as she could & was very nicely done. She paid $11,000.00 cash for it & sold it 2 years later for $139,000. her & her husband have made a lot of money buying old farmhouses with acerage, re-habing the homes & selliing it with a few acres. Most of the properties they buy were in the U.P. &b had at least 500 acres. They are now very “land rich” ! The one I just told you about was here in Herron.
Glad to here that you are doing so well. Larry B
